Cougar tossing Momma

Vancouver, cbc, news 0 Comment »

CBC News has a pretty amazing article about some conservation officers who tracked and shot a cougar in Squamish this week.

The only reason I read it was because I thought that “tracking a cougar” sounded pretty cool and images of awesome bushmen with tracking skills popped into my head, but I was disappointed to find out they actually used dogs which really doesn’t sound all that hard or challenging although I guess they must at least been somewhat decent shots to hit a live cougar, so I’ll give them that.

But then I wondered what happened to the baby, well a little further down in the article it explains:

“Mo (the mother) turned around and there was a cougar that was kind of on top of Maya (her baby), so she picked it up, threw it off, picked up Maya, and ran,”

She what a what?! OK, just let that sink in for a second. She picked up a live unrestrained wild cougar while it was trying to attack a baby and threw it. Talk about a mothers love.

They really need to re-title this article “Mother tosses cougar like a rag doll” or something because the conservation officers with their dogs and guns have absolutely nothing on this cougar tossing momma.

What’za girl gotta do to get noticed? She already tossed a cougar, would it have helped if she had body slammed it afterwards? <insert joke about male dominated news cycle>.

Unemployment rate in B.C. expecting 9%

Vancouver, employment, industry 0 Comment »

Unemployment rate in B.C. inches up to 7.6% and they are expecting it to go to 9% by the year end.

Also The Big Money reporting that nearly 12% of the Video Game industry has been laid off since last year (8,450 jobs bye-bye)

Well… one thing I will say though is that it seems like this is the perfect time to be re-training or otherwise getting yourself ready for when the economy bounces back and its time to start making money again. So if you’re thinking about starting a business, training centers are probably booming.

I think there needs to be an “if” in there somewhere but I think I’ll leave it out for now.

Cartoon Network, Nerd Corps, Vancouver 0 Comment »

HONG KONG (May 18, 2009) — Taking another step forward in its quest for global domination, the LEAGUE OF SUPER EVIL, a.k.a. L.O.S.E., will now air across Asia, thanks to a far-reaching deal with Cartoon Network.

Produced by the evil masterminds at Nerd Corps Entertainment, this hilarious comedy series follows a team of bumbling super villains in their ongoing quest for total neighbourhood domination. The series will launch next year on Cartoon Network in more than 25 countries, including India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, China and several others in South East Asia. The net will handle all rights, including merchandising, for the 26 x half hours, which will be aired as two consecutive 11-minute segments. Additionally, Nerd Corps has created 30-second shorts tied to each episode for use as bonus on-air or online content of evil.

Collaborating on The League’s plan for complete world domination is Cartoon Network in the U.S. and YTV in Canada, which both launched the series in March, as well as the BBC’s children’s channel in the U.K., CBBC, Jetix in Latin America and Canal +, Canal J and Gulli in France.

Congrats to Nerd Corps Entertainment on another hit series, its always nice to see a local Vancouver company making headlines especially in this difficult ecconomic sitiation, not to mention after hearing about their recent legal problems with Kids Ent which hit the blog networks about a month ago.

Pixar to open Vancouver studio

Walt Disney Studios, with whom Pixar merged in 2006, is scouting locations in the city, concentrating on the downtown area. It hopes to have the new studio up and running by this fall.

The studio will hire 75 to 100 people, most of them Canadians, and will make all of Pixar’s three-dimensional, computer-animated short films, which usually run three to five minutes. All Pixar theatrical features will continue to be made at its main studio in Emeryville, Calif., which employs almost 900.
