Pixar to open Vancouver studio

Walt Disney Studios, with whom Pixar merged in 2006, is scouting locations in the city, concentrating on the downtown area. It hopes to have the new studio up and running by this fall.

The studio will hire 75 to 100 people, most of them Canadians, and will make all of Pixar’s three-dimensional, computer-animated short films, which usually run three to five minutes. All Pixar theatrical features will continue to be made at its main studio in Emeryville, Calif., which employs almost 900.

The last 4 months of school start Monday

animation 0 Comment »

Its been far to long since I’ve written anything in this journal so for what its worth here it is.

The last term is staring me in the face and I’ve got to rise up and meet it head on. This will be the demo-reel section of my schooling, I’ve basically learned all that I can learn from the school and now must put it into practice and show what I can do. Its just a little bit scary when I stop and think about it, actually maybe scary isn’t the best word.

Exciting is probably more accurate.

Teletoon Animation Scholarship

animation 0 Comment »

This is absolutely fantastic, Teletoon is handing out large cash prizes to student animation work and I must admit the final contestants look amazing, much better than typical student work.

Image Metics hits Times Online

interesting 0 Comment »

Interesting to see a non-tech news source like TimesOnline heralding Image Metrics, I must admit Image Metrics does some amazing work but really its not as ground breaking as the TimesOnline makes it out to be.

If anything Image Metrics has simply added a layer of refinement onto existing mocap techniques, I honestly dont feel they’ve crossed any barrier yet, but they are getting closer. The eyes just look to flat and lifeless to me, but maybe I’m a tough sell having been exposed to so much animation.
